Sheerin’s Bairns are just too hot for Bully Wee

-

FALKIRK 3 CLYDE 0

Falkirk cut loose against Clyde in the second half as manager Paul Sheerin racked up a third straight victory at the Falkirk Stadium.

The Bairns clearly meant business from the start and Aiden Keena, Seb Ross and Craig Mcguffie all went close to an early opener in the first eight minutes.

A quieter spell followed, but Falkirk spurned another gilt-edged chance shortly before half-time when Aidan Nesbitt failed to bury Mcguffie’s cross.

The Bully Wee went one down as the hosts finally made their superiority tell in the 57th minute after veteran full-back Paul Dixon found the bottom corner of the net with a 20-yard right-foot drive.

Keena was soon fouled in the box, allowing Callumn Morrison to double the Bairns’ lead from the penalty spot.

The scoring looked to be over after Charlie Telfer’s late miss, but Morrison fired home his second and Falkirk’s third three minutes into stoppage time to send the 3,545 crowd home happy.

PETERHEAD 2 AIRDRIE 3

Airdrie started the brighter of the two teams and Mcgill, Easton and Frizzell forced three good saves from Long in the Peterhead goal.

However, it wasn’t long until they took the lead with an expertly-executed freekick by Mccabe into the top left-hand corner.

The Blue Toon showed some intent at the start of the second half, but Airdrie weathered the storm and extended their lead with a penalty by Mccabe after Conroy fouled Smith.

They then made it 3-0 when a superb pass by Gallagher was latched onto by Mcgill and he made no mistake.

Peterhead rallied and a thumping volley from Brown and a 92nd-minute goal from substitute Mclean provided a grandstand finish, but Airdrie held out for a deserved win

EAST FIFE 0 MONTROSE 2

The Fifers came out the traps quickly and had a sight of goal with seconds on the clock when Scott Mercer and Kevin Smith linked up well. Smith got his shot away, but his effort was blocked by the Mo defence.

The visitors looked bright themselves and a break forward by Blair Lyons saw him get a shot away, which Scott Gallacher turned past the post.

Gallacher’s opposite number Allan Fleming kept the scores level a couple of minutes later when he brilliantly saved from Kyle Connell’s point-blank header.

Montrose took the lead on half-time when the home side gifted possession deep inside their own half. Webster took full advantage, racing in and curling an excellent shot beyond Gallacher.

Montrose started the second half on the front foot and almost made it 2-0 on 50 minutes when Graham Webster fired inches wide.

Lyons was the next to go close for Stewart Petrie’s side as they dominated. The winger waltzed into the Fife box and got a shot away which shaved the post.

Montrose secured the points with 15 minutes to go when Cammy Ballantyne slammed his finish beyond Gallacher to put his side top of the league.

DUMBARTON 1 COVE 3

Mitch Megginson followed up his hat-trick against East Fife last week by opening the scoring against his former club, finding the net with a deflected shot from the edge of the box.

That was after 23 minutes and, 60 seconds later, Cove doubled their lead as Robbie Leitch looped home a header.

Dumbarton fought on and a Callum Wilson free-kick proved troublesome for the visiting keeper, but another free-kick gave them a lifeline soon after the restart. After a foul on Kalvin Orsi, Sons skipper Stuart Carswell bent home the free-kick from 20 yards to offer some hope.

With five minutes left, Rory Mcallister went down in the penalty area and picked himself up to convert the resulting penalty.

ALLOA 1 QUEEN’S PARK 1

Both sides fought hard to get the opener in a very evenly-fought match, with chances falling to both teams.

However, the home side were stunned when they were reduced to 10 men. Craig Howie had previously been booked for a foul and, in the 33rd minute, he was shown a second yellow and the red card by referee Chris Fordyce for a foul on Louis Longridge.

The visitors capitalised on their extra man, and Simon Murray opened for the visitors on the 58th minute with a closerange header when he connected with a Michael Doyle cross.

Queen’s continued to push for a second goal Louis Longridge came close with a left-foot shot from the edge of the Alloa box, but his shot was too high.

The home side scored a fantastic equaliser in the 77th minute when Steven Boyd was on hand to fire home from a free-kick with a right-foot shot to the top left-hand corner from 20 yards out, beating Willie Muir in the Spiders’ goal.
