Mcpake refuses to be drawn on Griffiths move

Dundee boss James Mcpake is remaining tight-lipped about a potential move for Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths.

The two men are known to be friends from their time as players with Livingston.

The Dark Blues defeat at Motherwell showed they could do with someone who can stick the ball in the net, but Mcpake was very guarded when asked if there was interest in taking the 31-year-old on loan. “I don’t know,” he said. “I’ve been linked with moves for a lot of players.

“The transfer window is getting ready to shut and I’ll be linked with a move for maybe three, four, five or six players.

“We are hoping to do business but I’m not going to say what we’re looking for.”

Mcpake had nothing but praise for his players despite them losing 1-0 at Motherwell.

He went on: “I feel we should have won the game but feeling that and coming away with nothing is a completely different thing.

“We created enough chances. I thought we were very fluent, particularly in the first half.

“We are really disappointed with losing a goal from a set-piece, but I’m extremely proud of what the players gave.

“On another day you win the game pretty comfortably because, and I think everybody will be in agreement with me here, the better team lost.”

Losing Charlie Adam early on to injury was a blow but the manager didn’t believe it was why his team conceded shortly afterwards.

He said: “I think the break in play helped them. At that point, it was attack after attack.

“I don’t think having Charlie would have stopped the goal because that wouldn’t have been where he was in the set-play.

“I’m super proud of the lads. The fans showed their appreciation.”

Mcpake hopes that Adam’s groin injury will heal over the international break and he’ll be available for their next league match against Livingston.

Meanwhile, the Steelmen confirmed the signing of Sondre Solholm Johansen from Norwegian club Mjondalen.

Boss Graham Alexander said: “We were working on it when the game was going on.

“I spoke to him a while ago and it has been a drawn out process but we are delighted to get him in.

“He is a top player who can improve us and hopefully he will be with us on Monday or Tuesday.

“He’s a centre-half as we only have three senior ones and that’s not enough to do us over the season.”
