The Sunday Post (Inverness)

Restaurant of the week

Suissi Vegan Kitchen, Glasgow

-

Location

Located in up-andcoming west end area, Partick, just a few minutes’ walk from the subway and train station at 294 Dumbarton Road.

First impressions

Classic monochrome decoration, lots of plants and plenty of space make the dining room warm and welcoming.

Service

Suissi is family-run, so the service is first-rate. Friendly, helpful and always smiling, our waiter was more than happy to talk us through the menu and recommend his favourite dishes.

Menu

As its name suggestion, Suissi is entirely plant-based – but even the most avid meat eater wouldn’t have any complaints. Chef Mama Lim has created a delightful fusion menu inspired by her native Malaysia as well as other Asian cuisines. Firm favourites such as gyoza and pad Thai sit alongside rendang curry and clay pot tofu.

Taste

We started with a selection of small bites (lotus root crisps, tempeh bao and spring rolls), each tastier than the last. The kitchen at Suissi really does make vegetables sing, and we were bowled over by the fragrant flavours in our main dishes, which included salt and chilli beech mushrooms and Cantonese crispy noodles. Plus, a side of salt and chilli chips because it’s not a meal without potatoes. The meal was so good, one member of our group said it was the best Asian-style meal he’d ever had in Glasgow, vegan or not.

Ambience

Relaxed and friendly, it’s a great place to visit with friends and family – or even for a Saturday date night.

Value

Small plates range between £3.50 and £5, while larger dishes are £7 to £8. Fantastic value for money given the quality and freshness.
