Ange keeps his counsel on Dom
Ange Postecoglou refuses to get drawn into the fallout from chief executive, Dominic Mckay, leaving Celtic.
The Hoops manager said: “We have to be careful with the narrative of who brought me to the club. I was surprised as anyone that Dom resigned, but I am going to be respectful of him and his family.”
Ange Postecoglou insists he has had no interference in his work by the Celtic board.
The manager was speaking after a match that had kicked off with supporters unfurling a banner criticising those running the club that said: “A Board Like No Other”.
There is extra concern among the fans about the way things are going after the departure of chief executive Dominic Mckay on Friday.
Postecoglou said: “We are all transient figures at this great club.
“The constant is the fans and they expect us to get on with it.
“I’ve done that throughout my career and will continue to.
“Everyone is allowed to express opinions in whatever way they choose to.”
The Australian didn’t appear too concerned that Mckay leaving would have an impact on his position.
He added: “We have to be careful with the narrative of who brought me to the club.
“I was surprised as anyone that Dom resigned but I am going to be respectful of him and his family.
“I’ve never said anything about a director of football. Do I need one? I need to continue to build a football club and a football team that can bring success to this great institution.
“If I feel changes need to be made, I will make them, but at no stage has the board, or anyone else at the club, got in the way of me doing anything.”
As well as staying out of boardroom politics, Postecoglou is also not going to start issuing medical advice and insists his players are double vaccinated.
He said: “My job is to give our players the best possible information from the experts and let them decide what’s best for them. That’s the way society should work.”
One thing concerning the boss was a reoccurrence of Greg Taylor’s shoulder injury during the win against Ross County.
The defender will be examined by the medical staff before being ruled out or in of this week’s Europa League game against Real Betis.
Ross County manager Malky Mackay was heartened by how hard Celtic had to work for their win against his side.
He said: “We have to make sure we take positives from that. We had a good structure and we did stick to the game plan.
“We are pulling out debuts every week so there is a group there who are all learning how to play with each other.
“It is about changing culture and making sure we have a group of players who have
energy, athleticism and a willingness to work hard.”
