Blue Toon boss Jim in spot of bother

-

PETERHEAD 0 COVE RANGERS 1 Rory Mcallister’s late penalty conversion saw Cove Rangers take all three points in this north-east derby.

Mitch Megginson proved to be a danger up front, but he should have done better with a chance from nine yards.

The Blue Toon’s best efforts were both from range, with Payne and Mcclean both having shots that just crept wide.

Mcallister was unlucky not to break the deadlock at the start of the second half when his header hit the post.

Scott Brown nearly repeated his scoring exploits from last week, but dragged his effort inches wide.

With 11 minutes remaining, Mcallister converted a spot-kick when Macdonald was adjudged to have fouled Neil in the box to put Cove in front.

Home boss Jim Mcinally was then sent to the stand for comments made about the penalty decision.

FALKIRK 1 DUMBARTON 2

In a thoroughly one-sided first half, the Bairns saw Michael Ruth hit the bar after

Aidan Nesbitt’s shot was cleared off the line.

Craig Mcguffie also had a penalty claim turned down, but the visitors somehow survived and then hit their hosts with two sucker punches in the third quarter of the match.

On the hour, Calvin Orsi latched on to a long ball and beat keeper Robbie Mutch with the aid of a deflection.

Eight minutes later, Callum Wilson cut inside and finished in style to double Dumbarton’s lead.

Craig Telfer pulled a goal back in the seventh minute of stoppage time, but, by then, it was far too late to rescue a point.

CLYDE 2 QUEEN’S PARK 2

Midway through the first half, the visitors looked set to take the lead when Bob Mchugh sent a shot high over Neil Parry, only to see the ball crash against the bar.

David Goodwillie gave Clyde the lead on 36 minutes, the former Scotland striker cushioning a volley over the advancing Willie Muir.

Queen’s drew level on 53 minutes when Louis Longridge drilled in a 20-yarder.

The league leaders turned things around on 58 minutes when Gillespie cracked home a penalty after Scott

Rumsby had fouled Michael Doyle at a corner.

Clyde were awarded a penalty with three minutes left when Muir clattered into Gregory Tade, but Goodwillie’s cheeky chipped effort cleared the bar.

However, he atoned for his error with a minute to go by bundling the ball over the line following a scramble after Robert Jones had headed against the bar.

AIRDRIEONIANS 3 EAST FIFE 0

Airdrieonians grabbed an early goal after a superb Kouider-aïssa pass found Calum Smith. East Fife keeper Scott Gallacher saved well, but Callum Gallagher nipped in to poke the ball home for a 1-0 lead.

East Fife were reduced to 10 men 16 minutes from the interval when former Airdrie loanee Dan Higgins was shown a straight red card for an over-the-ball challenge on Kouider-aïssa.

On 58 minutes, the home side struck with a second goal after Scott Mcgill scored in spectacular fashion. He swung in a ball from the left touchline 30 yards from goal and it looped over Gallacher and into the net.

They rounded off the scoring with 11 minutes to play. It was a second for Gallagher as he brilliantly brought down

Craig Watson’s cross with his chest and rifled home from close range.

MONTROSE 0 ALLOA ATH 2

Montrose were awarded an early penalty when Blair Lyons was brought down in the box. With penalty ace Graham Webster out through injury, Lewis Milne stepped up to take the kick, but put the ball past the keeper’s right-hand post.

Worse was to come for Montrose in 26 minutes when slack defensive work at the back allowed Mouhamed Niang in to score for Alloa.

On the stroke of half-time, the Wasps added to their tally when Adam King fired a shot into the right-hand corner.

The Gable Endies had a strong penalty claim waved away on 71 minutes, then Alloa’s King shot over from distance, with Montrose keeper Allan Fleming out of his goal after making a clearance.

The Gable Endies’ pressure almost cost them again on 88 minutes. Alloa broke away, leaving Steven Boyd one-on-one with Fleming, who blocked his shot. The rebound fell to visitors’ sub Kevin Cawley, whose effort was eventually cleared.

Montrose had their best chance of the match in the 90th minute when Andrew Steeves had a shot from inside the box well saved by keeper David Hutton.
