DUMBARTON 0 QUEEN’S PK 3

A commanding second-half performance sent Queen’s Park clear as solo league leaders at Dumbarton.

The first half saw few chances in a closely-matched contest, but the second half was anything but.

Three minutes after the restart, Sons skipper Stuart Carswell was penalised for a foul in the box. Sam Ramsbottom saved Grant Gillespie’s penalty, but the midfielder followed up to head the rebound in.

With 17 minutes left, the Spiders turned the screw. Bob Mchugh slid in to meet a header at the back post and fire home the second goal.

Five minutes later, Luis Longstaff iced the cake with an angled finish despite Ramsbottom getting a hand to his shot.

ALLOA 2 PETERHEAD 4

Alloa took an early lead in the 10th minute as Steven Boyd scored with a leftfoot shot from the edge of the box when he connected with a Euan Henderson cross from the right.

The visitors equalised in the 29th minute. Niah Payne, six yards out, latched onto an Andrew Mccarthy cross and fired home a right-foot shot.

Two goals in two minutes were shared as the visitors took the lead in the 37th minute when they were awarded a penalty, and the home keeper was shown the red card by referee Steven Kirkland for a second bookable offence. Scott Brown stepped up and fired past the Alloa substitute keeper Keir Burt.

Ten-man Alloa levelled in the 39th minute when Adam King connected with a Daniel Church cross and fired home from close range.

With the extra-man advantage, the visitors went ahead in the 58th minute, substitute Russell Mclean heading home from close range.

Mulligan then scored the Blue Toon’s fourth goal in the 84th minute.

CLYDE 0 MONTROSE 5

The Gable Endies scored with just over a minute played when James Keatings’ overhead-kick found Lewis Milne, who sent a drive squirming under Neil Parry.

On five minutes, Graham Webster ran clear and sent over a cross that a sliding Conrad Balatoni turned into his own net.

The Bully Wee were denied on 10 minutes when Aaron Lennox tipped over Aaron Splaine’s header.

A third goal arrived on 26 minutes when another Webster cross caused panic and Cammy F Ballantyne converted from close range.

Montrose netted again on 66 minutes when they capitalised on Splaine losing possession and charged forward with Milne sending a shot flashing into the net.

Sub Craig Johnstone slammed a cutback high into the net to make it 5-0 with nine minutes left. Milne was denied a hat-trick when a free-kick hit a post.

EAST FIFE 4 COVE RANGERS 2

East Fife welcomed back striker Ryan Wallace for his first start of the league season and the forward had the ball in the net after six minutes only to have his effort ruled out for offside.

East Fife took a deserved lead on 12 minutes when Aaron Steele nodded home a Connor Mcmanus corner.

It was a lead they extended just a few minutes later, Kyle Connell’s finish from 25 yards finding the top corner.

Cove almost pulled one back when Jamie Masson was afforded a sight of goal, but Jude Smith saved his effort.

The hosts went a long way to wrapping up the win on the stroke of half-time when Scott Mercer’s free-kick gave Stuart Mckenzie no chance.

Cove gave themselves a shot in the arm straight from the start of the second half when Robbie Leitch raced in behind the home defence and beat Smith.

The Bayview men restored their three-goal advantage soon after when Connell netted Mercer’s delivery.

Late on, Cove again reduced the deficit through Morgyn Neill’s header.

FALKIRK 0 AIRDRIEONIANS 3

Airdrie came close in 20 minutes when Dylan Easton’s clipped effort was gathered by keeper Paddy Martin.

A minute later, Michael Ruth could only head Aidan Nesbitt’s delivery from the left just wide of the visitor’s goal.

On 35 minutes, Airdrie led Kerr Mcinroy carried the ball to the edge of the box then picked out Easton, who expertly stroked the ball into the net.

Airdrie pushed for a second and they went close twice late in the half. Calum Gallagher’s header from Callum Smith cross in 43 minutes brought out a fine save from keeper Martin. Then, a minute later, Easton’s 25-yard netbound effort was headed away for a corner.

On 67 minutes, Adam Frizzell crossed the ball and Gallagher headed for goal. Martin made a fine save, pushing the ball out, but Smith was on hand to fire the ball into the net.

Airdrie added a third in 81 minutes after Josh Kerr powered Easton’s corner into the back of the net.
