Handling goal propels City to victory

-

A first-half strike from Danny Handling and a secondhalf penalty from Ryan Shanley proved sufficient for EDINBURGH CITY to see off the challenge of fellow play-off contenders FORFAR as they won 2-0.

Forfar’s participation in the playoffs had been all but assured prior to the game, but they were keen to make up ground on second-placed Annan. Just before the half-hour, Handling put City ahead, the former Hibs man picking up a loose ball and firing home from 18 yards. Shanley secured the victory for the Capital outfit midway through the second half, scoring from a penalty after he had been tripped by Moore.

KELTY HEARTS drew 1-1 with STIRLING ALBION.THE Binos shocked the champions with a second-minute strike when Kieran Moore picked up an Aaron Dunmore through ball and shot his side into the lead from 10 yards. In the eighth minute, it was all-square when James Barjonas’ pass found Botti Biabi and he equalised with a

shot from the centre of the penalty box.

STRANRAER fired five past ALBION ROVERS as they finished with a flourish. Matt Yates fired the ball home after three minutes and Tommy Muir extended Stranraer’s lead early in the second half. In the final six minutes, The Blues hit further goals from Ayrton Sonkur, Craig Ross and Paul Woods.

Despite beating hosts ANNAN ATHLETIC 3-2, COWDENBEATH trail Elgin by nine points with just three games left as they bid to avoid the play-offs. Andrew Barrowman, Craig Barr and Samuel Ompreon netted for the Fifers, with Tony Wallace hitting a double for Annan, one from a penalty.

STENHOUSEMUIR kept their play-off hopes alive with a solid 2-0 victory at ELGIN CITY. From a corner, taken by Brown on 14 minutes, Adam Corbett was gifted a free header to put the visitors in front. Stenny didn’t get their second until six minutes from time and it was a freak goal, Michael Miller’s cross from deep on the left caught the wind and swirled over the head of Hoban into the net.
