The Sunday Post (Inverness)

Restaurant of the week

Souter’s Inn, 47 Main Road, Kirkoswald, Ayrshire

-

Location

On the site of the old school where Robert Burns studied in 1775, the thatched roof inn has plenty of parking.

First Impressions

Despite being housed in an old building, the restaurant is modern and contemporary. Exposed brick walls and wood are combined with bright artwork and a big open fireplace, creating a gorgeous space.

Service

Fantastic. We’re greeted with a smile, nothing is a problem and we feel well looked after. Every staff member we see is pleasant and the manager is great with the kids. He even took them into the kitchen to meet the chef which was a nice touch!

Menu

Whatever tickles your tastebuds, you’re sure to find something you like on the menu. Starters range from soup and salads to chicken liver pate and creamy garlic mushrooms. For mains, choose from haggis and haddock to cheeseburgers and chicken schnitzel.

Taste

It’s a hard choice, but we plump for the katsu panko breaded chicken burger and the tigerprawn and monkfish curry. The burger is delicious, with chunky chips and salad on the side. The curry looks amazing and tastes even better. Our mini diners have the macaroni cheese and roast chicken salad. It’s refreshing to see something so healthy on the kids menu. The food gets a thumbs up all round.

Ambience

It’s a busy Saturday night. Thankfully we booked a table in advance as it looks like this is a local hot spot on the weekends. Nevertheless its warm and relaxing. Very family friendly.

Price

Our bill for two adults and two kids comes in at just over £70. Very reasonable indeed.
