Scintillating Forfar hit five in first half

-

Scintillating first-half form saw FORFAR move to within one point of second as they blew ANNAN away 5-1 at Station Park.

The Loons opened in the 12th minute when Darren Whyte set up Matty Aitken and he made no mistake. They doubled their advantage on 23 minutes when Steven Warnock slotted beneath the keeper, and it was 3-0 when Stefan Mccluskey side-footed a volley into the top corner. Mccluskey doubled his tally in the 35th minute as he slotted a cross into the bottom corner, then completed his hat-trick as he jinked and danced in the box before being felled by an Annan defender. Mccluskey duly converted from the spot. Annan got a consolation goal 10 minutes from time through Tony Wallace.

A four-goal blitz in the first quarter of this game ensured that STENHOUSEMUIR remain in playoff contention after a 4-1 win over visiting ALBION ROVERS. After just 46 seconds, Adam Corbett headed home from close range, then doubled the lead in the eighth minute through a well-struck shot by Euan O’reilly. It was 3-0 when Robert Thomson cushioned a Darren Christie pass before firing

into the top corner, then Adam Brown capitalised on hesitancy between defence and keeper to slot the ball home for 4-0. The visitors pulled one back in the 40th minute when James Leslie was fouled by Michael Miller and Charlie Reilly stepped up to net the penalty. Rovers’ Sean Fagan was sent off for stopping a scoring opportunity on the hour.

Host STIRLING ALBION lost 2-0 to ELGIN CITY, who secured their SPFL status and moved to a point of seventh-placed Stirling Albion. Second-half goals from Rory Macewan and Matthew Cooper gave Gavin Price’s men their second win at Forthbank this season.

Champions KELTY HEARTS won at STANRAER. Robbie Mcnab tapped in on the hour and, soon after, Thomas Reilly curled in a low shot. Late on, Kallum Higginbotham floated a superb lob over a stranded keeper for 3-0.

COWDENBEATH v EDINBURGH CITY finished goalless.
