Motherwell won promotion back to the Premier Division with a 3-1 victory at Falkirk.

Graeme Forbes (2) and Brian Mcclair (above) scored as Davie Hay’s Steelmen returned to the top flight after an absence of three seasons.

Hearts announced they would listen to offers for their former Plymouth Argyle full-back, Brian Mcneill.

50 YEARS AGO

Celtic clinched their seventh league title-in-a-row at East Fife. Dixie Deans bagged a brace and Harry Hood was also on target in a 3-0 win.

George Mclean (above) got all Ayr United’s goals in a 4-2 win over Dundee United.

Hibs and Rangers drew 1-1 in the Scottish Cup semifinal, with Jimmy O’rourke equalising for the Hibees after Alex Macdonald had put the Light Blues ahead.

Les Cameron came out of retirement to play in goal for Brechin City in a 2-1 defeat by Clydebank. Alan Munro got the Bankies’ winner.

60 YEARS AGO

Scotland beat England 2-0 at Hampden Park with goals from Davie Wilson (above) and Eric Caldow’s converted penalty in front of a crowd of 132,441.
