Jed-forest secure Kings’ title with win

-

Jed-forest lifted the Selkirk Sevens tournament and with it the Kings of the Sevens title yesterday at Philiphaugh with a 24-12 win over the hosts in the final.

Selkirk, winners at Earlston a week earlier, were reduced to six players when Scott Mcclymont was red-carded following an incident on the field with the scores level.

Jed scored impressive victories in their four ties and followed up their own success at Kelso a week earlier to prove the best and most consistent side on the circuit.

They now top the Kings of the Sevens table with 58 points ahead of Selkirk (42) and Melrose (41) in an unassailable position.

The final was level at the interval with tries from Aaron Mccolm and Lewis Walker, Mccolm and Gary Munro converting.

The red card changed the the game as Lewis Young added further tries before Colin Anderson added a late score Selkirk.

There was consolation for the home side when Selkirk’s Andrew Grant-suttie picked up the Playerof-the-tournament award.

Selkirk were in control of the first of the semis with a convincing victory over Currie thanks to tries from Grant-suttie and Mccolm and a late touch down from Finlay Wheelans.

Jed-forest were in rampant form throughout the afternoon, scoring 138 points and set the club up for a grandstand finish at home next Saturday.
