Celebrate Cinco de Mayo

Commemorating the date of the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-mexican War, the Cinco de Mayo is a large celebration of Mexican culture and heritage. Celebrated on May 5 every year, thousands of locals will gather to take part in a massive parade, dressing up as French and American soldiers to re-enact the war. Take in the display, plus colourful floats, mariachi bands, and spectacular costumes, all washed down with plenty of tequila. The 11-night Authentic ‘Mexperience’ in Mexico, departing May 3, 2024, costs from £4,199 pp.

Carnation crazy

With a tradition dating more than 150 years, don’t miss the spectacle that comprises a festival battle of flowers between the various floats and horse-drawn carriages.

Taking place in Valencia on the last Sunday of July, signalling the end of the Great July Fair, people garbed in traditional costumes throw flowers while protecting themselves with rackets from the many blooms thrown back at them, as they parade through the streets. The three-night trip, departing July 26, 2024, costs from £1,249 pp.

Poland’s rich history

Dating back to 1260, St Dominic’s Fair in Gdańsk was established by the decree of Pope Alexander IV and is now considered one of the biggest cultural and trade open-air events in Europe. Each year, millions flock to the centre to watch street performers, theatre shows, parades and concerts. The seven-night In The Footsteps of Copernicus – Northern Poland, departing July 26, 2024, costs from £1,899 pp.
