Nicky is glad he was kept in the cupboard!

NICKY LAW can’t keep the smile off his face when he jokes about being locked up in the same cupboard as Lee Wallace throughout the January transfer window.

The Rangers midfielder was the subject of a £50,000 deadlineday bid by Blackpool, which the club rejected.

And, as the Englishman’s grin suggests, that is just fine by him.

“I was delighted to still be here at the start of February,” says Law. “I’m absolutely loving it here, helping the club on its journey back to the top.

“I spoke to the manager about the Blackpool offer, and he told me the club didn’t think the money was good enough.

“I was in the same situation as Lee Wallace — locked away in the cupboard! That’s great because there’s so much to look forward to.

“We had the Ramsdens Cup Final, anyway, but the Scottish Cup is the big one.

“We got a great draw, and if we can get past Albion Rovers, we’ll have a semi-final at Ibrox — that is a massive incentive.

“You would fancy Aberdeen quite strongly to go on and win it, because Derek McInnes has built a really strong team. They were a really solid side and he’s added an attacking threat.

“But with Celtic going out, it gives everybody a great chance. We think we can win it.”

Rangers came badly unstuck against Dundee United in last season’s Scottish Cup, and Law admits their next encounter with a Premiership outfit could be a shock to the system.

“The biggest thing for us would be the tempo of the game. We’d need to get a grip on that” hesays.

“Right now, we’re playing part-time sides and attacking for the full 90 minutes, whereas if we play against a Premiership side, they’ll be just as fit as us and probably just as good as us too.

“You’d like to think we’d lift our game, as you do when you come up against bigger and better sides. On the other hand, I’m sure the other team would do the same against us.”

Time, as they say, will tell.
