Don’t make an error by missing out

- By Reg Moore sport@sundaypost.com

THE three placed horses behind Jazzy at Stratford last Sunday all join issue again in the opening juvenile hurdle at Newton Abbot today.

And there is a strong case for saying that the second horse, Schoolboy Error, can improve to finish ahead of Invocation and Its a mystery to me again.

Jamie Osborne’s novice comes to hurdling a winner on the flat off 58 at Chelmsford in April, with no stamina doubts, for a contest lacking in depth.

Philip Hobbs’ Its a mystery to me was ridden by Richard Johnson on his debut second last month and, interestingly, rides the selection this afternoon.

Sandgate ran as if his turn was about to come last time at Worcester, when he was beaten in the final 100 yards by Today Please, on rainsoftened ground.

There was only four-and-ahalf lengths back to him that day in third place and, with normal progress, that form might be good enough in the finale.

Neil Mulholland’s four-yearold found decent ground to his liking when winning at Haydock on the flat a year ago and he’ll have that again today.

David Bridgewater’ s Garnock has missed most of the last two years. But last time, at Aintree, suggested that he was on the way back to close to his best.

Stratford’s seller provides the trip and conditions that saw the eight-year-old win a Class 4 novice hurdle with ease by 10 lengths at Fontwell two years ago.
