Forfar win 5-3 on penalties for bonus point

-

FORFAR manager Gary Bollan insisted his side should have had the maximum three points after beating Dumbarton 5-3 on penalties after the sides shared four goals at the end of 90 minutes.

“I felt it was a soft penalty which led to Dumbarton’s second equaliser while we should have been awarded a penalty in the dying minutes when David Cox appeared to be pulled in the box.”

“We should have had all three points instead of two and that’s hard to take as I thought that we performed really well throughout.”

The Loons grabbed the opener 10 minutes before the break when new signing Josh Peters fired home with the Sons equalising eight minutes into the second- half when Craig Gallagher headed home a Craig Pettigrew cross.

Forfar regained the advantage in the 61st minute when Tom O’Brien hit home a 30-yard screamer.

But the visitors equalised again with a hotly disputed penalty when Garry Fleming converted after Cox had been adjudged to have handled.

Forfar’s Jamie Bain was sent off for a second yellow card right at the death with the game then going to penalties with Cox, Jim Lister, Lewis Milne, Andy Munro and Gavin Swankie converting for the Loons. Gallagher missed the second of the visitors four pens the others being converted by Robert Thomson, Garry Fleming and Ryan Stevenson.

Dumbarton gaffer Steven Aitken said: “I’m disappointed because we’d enough chances to win three games.”

“We had the bulk of possession for the game and we should have had the match out of sight.”
