Your take on unusual funeral services

-

A SCI-FIfan was laid to rest in spectacular fashion last week – with a Star Wars-themed funeral. Undertakers dressed up as Darth Vader and his Stormtroopers to bury Andrew Strachan in Blantyre. We asked our Email Jury what they thought of these types of funerals.

■ I think it’s a great way to celebrate someone’s life. No-one to wear black. Bright colours only. No dreary hymns – uplifting, inspiring songs only. Fiona Reid, Forfar.

■ Personally, it’s not for me but if it was the wish of the deceased person then so be it. When it comes to my funeral I have stated no black, brown or navy. I want bright, cheery colours. Lorraine Anderson, Edinburgh.

■ I’m not a fan of them, but everyone to their own. I prefer a more traditional funeral. Sandra Wisely, Skene.

■ It’s a bit over the top. I wouldn’t want one – a simple cremation will do me fine. Davie Kerr, Lochaber.

■ I think death like birth is a very personal thing and how you or your loved ones plan a funeral is no one else’s business. Margaret Gibb, Fife.

■ Each to their own – it is the deceased person’s wish which should be honoured. My late parents wanted nobody at their funerals but myself, my husband and our daughter. I have stipulated that I don’t even want a funeral of any kind. Judi Martin, Aberdeenshire.

■ If that’s their wish and they have the money then let it be. I am a Christian and when I die, I just want to meet the Lord. That is spectacular enough for me. Carol Whitehead, Prestwich.

■ If that is the wish of the deceased, then I don’t see anything wrong with it.

Linda Cox, Aberdeen.

■ I suppose it’s up to those involved to have the type of funeral they want. Personally, I wouldn’t want any such funeral for myself or anybody I love.

Liz Kelly, Glasgow.

■ This is the last thing you will ever do on this earth, so if that is the way you want to depart, then why not? The only thing is, you won’t see it! And it will be expensive, so start saving for the day. Joan Fordyce, Forfar.
