League 2 Round-up

-

MICHAEL ROSE gave Morecambe the three points in their first ever Football League meeting with Blackpool.

The Seasiders opened the scoring through Brad Potts after 23 minutes.

He turned superbly in the box and drilled a low shot that beat Barry Roche low to his right-hand side.

Morecambe had been second best for much of the opening half, but levelled in injury time from the penalty spot. Tom Barkhuizen was brought down and Jack Dunn stepped up to send Sam Slocombe the wrong way from the spot.

The second half was a scrappy affair with few chances, but Morecambe took the points with a superb counter attack goal 15 minutes from time. Tom Barkhuizen broke past Colin Daniel and found Rose, who made a run from midfield before slotting home.

A first-half goal from Bermudan international winger Reggie Lambe earned Carlisle a 1-0 home win over a Plymouth side suffering its third straight defeat.

The Cumbrians went ahead in the 37th- minute when Plymouth’s defence failed to clear a dangerous Danny Grainger centre, and Lambe drilled home a low, right- foot shot from 15 yards for his second League goal of the season.

Hartlepool United endured a torrid journey down to Exeter City, but it was worth it in the end for manager Craig Hignett following a 2-1 win.

Liam McAlinden’s first goal for the Grecians looked to have the home side in charge.

But quickfire goals after 74 and 75 minutes from Michael-Woods and Billy Paynter turned the game on its head and handed Pools an unlikely win after an 11- hour marathon trip to the West Country on Friday.
