MOTHERWELL 1 Cadden (47) ST JOHNSTONE 2 Swanson (56), MacLean (75)

-

FOR the second time in four days St Johnstone came from going behind to record a win.

Although Tommy Wright was delighted with his side’s performance, it was slack goalkeeping from Well’s Craig Samson that allowed Steven MacLean to steal the winner.

Wright said: “I thought we controlled large parts of the game and were pleasing on the eye. We showed character to come from behind again and deserved our win.”

That win should have been sealed in the first half as Wright’s men, with four changes from the win over Hearts, dominated early possession.

However, it took Saints 22 minutes to test Samson, Chris Millar’s drive palmed over the bar by the keeper.

While Motherwell looked leg-weary they came closest to scoring, just after the halfhour, when Scott McDonald found the side netting.

The Perth men failed to heed the warning and two minutes after the break found themselves behind.

Richard Tait burst into the box and his ball across goal took a deflection off Brad McKay to set up Chr is Cadden for the simplest of tap-ins.

McDonald almost made it 2-0 but steered the loose ball narrowly past.

Two minutes later, Saints equalised. Danny Swanson cut into the box from the right and drove a left- foot shot under Samson to make it 1-1.

Kane passed up a great chance to put the Perth side ahead but rolled the ball past the keeper and his open goal.

At the other end Mannus stretched to turn Johnson’s drive over his crossbar as both teams chased a winner.

And it duly arrived for Saints after 74 minutes.

Kane’s 25-yard drive should have been comfortable for Samson. However, he palmed the ball down, allowing McLean to nip in and nod it over the line for the winner.
