MORTON 1 KILDAY (25) FALKIRK 1 LEAHAY (90+1)

-

FALKIRK’S Luke Leahy scrambled in a controversial injury time goal to grab Falkirk a point in a 1-1 draw at Morton in a game that was nearly not played at all.

The game was in doubt until half an hour before kick- off due to a problem with safety announcements being heard over the PA system. However, it eventually got the go-ahead.

Despite their late goal Falkirk boss Peter Houston was in no mood to congratulate his players as he said: “The attitude was all wrong in the first half. We had words at half time. While the attitude was better we should not have to be talking about things like that.

“We dominated the second half and I am pleased that we got a goal but it was not good enough.”

Morton created the first opening in eight minutes when Michael Tidser chipped towards goal from 18 yards that looked set to beat Deniz Mehmet until the stopper stretched high to save.

The Bairns survived penalty appeals before 20 minutes had been played with Leahy’s tackle on Jai Quitongo and then a handball from James Craigen going unpunished.

Paul Watson sliced a clearance over his own bar on 25 minutes and from the resultant corner the hosts took the lead when Ross Forbes’ dead ball was spilled by Mehmet and Lee Kilday volleyed in from seven yards.

Falkirk created danger early in the second half when Bob McHugh flicked in a header that forced Derek Gaston into a fine block.

The Bairns had a chance to level just before the hour mark when Myles Hippolyte was fouled 19 yards from goal. However Aaron Muirhead blasted the free-kick out of the ground.

A minute into injury time Hippolyte threw in a long throw and Leahy ignored appeals for handball to force the ball in from a yard out.

Morton manager Jim Duffy said: “We passed the ball really well in the first half and deserved to be in front. We defended really well in the second and the players are adamant it was a handball at their goal.”
