Tim is set to make a difference

- By Reg Moore sport@sundaypost.com

MAKE THE DIFFERENCE has been struggling with the handicapper since comfortably winning at Kelso last September. But his time is close again.

The eight-year-old won his Class 2 race last year off a mark of 107, and six fruitless outings since have seen Tim Vaughan’s runner slide to 106.

Maybe he is even better judged by the race after Kelso when he was second to Broughton at Chepstow, beaten a length-and-threequarters, off 115.

That was also a Class 2 and in today’s first event for Kelso’s opening fixture, he is dropped into a Class 4 race by his in-form trainer. He looks solid.

The Welsh trainer has the best horse in the following maiden hurdle. But that may not mean as much as it should in the case of Spectator.

He didn’t seem to enjoy jumping hurdles at Stratford five weeks ago, but with that nice break and Tom O’Brien aboard, he’ll be better today.

He ran to around 80 on the flat for Andrew Balding and was made favourite at Stratford. Perhaps this moregalloping track will suit better.

The trip might be the angle for Catch the moonlight today, after Lucinda Russell’s eightyear-old ran out of track at Uttoxeter,a fortnight ago.

The mare was making up ground relentlessly behind Wistari Rocks at two miles. The extra two furlongs today should be ideal off just 86.
