LEAGUE 1 ROUND-UP

-

BOLTON’S recent slump continued as they made it four games without a goal as they lost 2-0 at home to Oxford.

Wes Thomas and Chris Maguire were on target for the visitors as they sealed a first success at Bolton for 40 years.

Second best for most of the afternoon, Wanderers failed to put a serious shot on Simon Eastwood’s goal despite using six different strikers.

Oxford shaded a dull first half, Chris Maguire forcing Mark Howard into a save early on.

Bolton picked up briefly after the break, as Charlie Raglan headed Zach Clough’s cross from under his own bar.

But it was Oxford who made the running late on, Kane Hemmings firing at Mark Howard, who then denied Alex McDonald with another snap shot.

Thomas became the first player other than Hemmings to score away from home for the U’s this season with nine minutes left.

Maguire then added insult to injury in the final minute, tapping into an empty net after Howard palmed away Hemmings’ stinging shot.

Ethan Ebanks-Landell scored with virtually the last touch of the game to deny Fleetwood victory over Sheffield United as the Blades snatched a point in a 1-1 draw at Highbury.

After Paul Coutts went close for United, Fleetwood took the lead against the run of play.

Chris Long stole in from the left, where his effort from a tight angle deflected into the path of David Ball, who stroked home from close range.

Billy Sharp’s shot was saved by Chris Neal and Long was denied by Simon Moore.

Sub Martyn Woolford forced a fingertip save from Moore, before Ebanks-Landell rose through a crowd at the back post to power home.
