Reasons you’ll love the city

-

READ ALL ABOUT IT

Edinburgh has more libraries per capita than any other city in the world. It has some fab bookshops, too. We love Looking Glass Books.

A NOVEL NAME

Waverley Station is named after Sir Walter Scott’s 1814 novel.

GREEN SPACE

Edinburgh has 112 parks and more trees per head of population than any other UK city.

DOG’S LIFE

Greyfriars Bobby is the only animal in the UK to have been given a Freedom of the City award. Cute, but not much use to him now! Find his statue at Candlemaker Row.

QUALITY STREETS

Edinburgh has won more than 12 “UK’s best city” awards in the last eight years...

TOURIST TRADE

...so it’s perhaps no surprise that it’s Scotland’s most popular destination for UK and overseas visitors.

ROYAL MILE... AND A BIT

It’s actually one mile and 107 yards. And it’s a charming tourist trip in the heart of the Old Town.

LISTED AND LOVELY

75% of buildings in Edinburgh’s city centre are listed, protecting them from too many changes. Maybe that’s why so many of us consider it such a gem.

YOU’LL HAVE HAD YOUR TEA?

Despite the famous old Edinburgh saying, there are a wealth of cafes. We love the great pastries at Casa Amiga on Leith Walk.

UP THE HILL

The Mound is an artificial hill, created from dumping earth from the foundations of the New Town. Still a great view from the top, though!
