Worried about my decision

-

Dear June

I REALLY need to get in touch with my dog, Deano.

I had him put to sleep on September 19 but now feel it was the wrong decision.

Looking back, I feel he had more time and we gave up on him too early.

I would be grateful if you could make contact.

Carole, Cornwall.

June Says

It is always difficult to make the decision to let an animal family member go.

Trying to get the timing right can be hard, but leaving it too long is heartbreaking.

Most who have to make the choice will rely on the expertise of a vet.

I’ve had to say goodbye to animals who were dearly loved a few times and with my Pekinese dog, Unsu, I held on to him longer than I should have, which was a lesson I learned from.

If all avenues of cure and recovery are exhausted I feel the kindest thing to do is say goodbye before any discomfort and unnecessary suffering occurs.

Having learned the lesson with my dog’s passing, I applied that experience when the time came to say goodbye to my beautiful Siamese cat.

Your decision saved your loyal friend from any pain and emotional distress that would inevitably have occurred in time.

Deano is now totally free of pain and knows he is very much missed and was a valued part of your family.

It was his time and you made the right choice through your love for him by doing what was required with his best interests at heart.
