-

A MAN who was once the chairman of a campaign credited for making stalking a criminal offence has been accused of harassing his ex-wife.

Peter Noreiko, 67, was invited to step down from his role at Action Against Stalking earlier this year.

He denies charges, which cover a nine-month period and have been brought under Section 39 of the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010 – the anti-stalking law which the charity had campaigned for.

Mr Noreiko, of South Beach, Troon, denies conduct which caused his ex-wife, Elaine Ferrie, fear or alarm.

It is alleged between October 25 last year and July 25, he repeatedly visited and drove past both Ms Ferrie’s home in the Ayrshire village of Monkton and her workplace in Troon. It is claimed he tried to enter the house uninvited.

He is also accused of repeatedly trying to contact Ms Ferrie by phone, text message and email.

Mr Noreiko, a retired businessman, is also alleged to have repeatedly made contact with his ex-wife’s family, her friends and colleagues in an attempt to gain information about her

He is also accused of attending her Slimming World class in South Beach Hotel, Troon, and handing staff letters marked for her attention.

The case has been adjourned until October 19.
