luss for life

The Village Rest is well worth a visit.

-

1 LOCATION

On the little road running down to Luss pier. It’s just two minutes’ walk from the main car park in the village, so couldn’t be handier.

2 FIRST IMPRESSIONS

It’s one of the pretty little stone cottages used by the workers once involved in slate quarrying. There’s a seating area outside – but also a sign saying that wasps are out in force so we wisely decide on inside instead. That’s really bright and airy with loads of light spilling in from the ceiling windows.

3 SERVICE

We had booked ahead, were warmly greeted and swiftly shown to our table, a nice corner booth by the window. The friendly attention continued right throughout the meal. There was a little mix-up with the order but it was quickly and apologetically sorted out and a refreshing jug of water came as we perused the menu.

4 MENU

It’s a café bistro so there’s plenty of hearty fare such as burgers, pasta, chilli, haggis and fish ’n’ chips. The food turned out to be so filling we never got to the sweets menu.

5 TASTE

The beef lasagne on the specials board was a real melt-in-the-mouth homemade affair and the haggis burger was slightly spicy, very moist and filling.

6 PRICE

Two starters, mains and couple of large soft drinks came in at a pretty reasonable £40.

7 AMBIENCE

It’s fairly busy so there’s a bit of a buzz about the place. Not raucous and noisy though, just enough to give a bit of atmosphere.

8 SOMETHING SPECIAL

Burgers are a real feature with no fewer than nine different options but the salmon and dill fishcakes were a really delicate standout.

9 TOILETS

Smart and clean even after what had been a busy weekend afternoon. The big disabled convenience was also very accessible.

10 VERDICT

A lovely little lochside treat that’s well worth swinging off the busy A82 to visit. 16/20
