Toure will show his class again at Hampden

-

CELTIC conducted some fine business during the summer transfer window.

They were very astute and the pull of helping the club into the Champions League can be a useful advantage.

Yes, Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair have both grabbed the headlines for their goalscoring exploits, and rightly so. But, perhaps, the most significant addition of the lot has been the recruitment of Kolo Toure.

The veteran defender has been rock solid for his team, although he held his hands up to two costly mistakes in the midweek Champions League defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach.

But I’m as certain as can be the former Liverpool and Manchester City defender will bounce back this afternoon against Rangers to give his usual commanding performance.

I remember him when he played for Liverpool, and his positional sense was outstanding.

There would be times the team would be under the cosh, and he wouldn’t half read the game well and produce some brilliant tackles and fine interceptions to break up play.

He has been the same at Celtic. He has stood up and led by example in the big games.

He has plenty of experience and with that he brings calmness. I think you can see his team-mates are relaxed when they play with him, and he has been a positive influence on the likes of Erik Sviatchenko.

Both of them will be tested at different stages this afternoon. But if they can cope, then the players from middle to front can take the ball away and keep it for long periods in the final third of the pitch.

In the area from middle to front, Celtic offer different threats to Rangers. They have good options and the likes of Patrick Roberts came off the bench the other night and showed his fine ability.

They also have a striker in Leigh Griffiths who displayed his quality time and time again last season and scored 40 goals.

He may well be a little frustrated this season because injury kept him out, but he still has the ability to score against any side and appears to thrive on the big occasion.

So, with a number of options available, it will be interesting to see the starting line-up Brendan Rodgers (right) goes with.
