AIRDRIE 1 BRECHIN 0

THE visitors started brightly and had a couple of long-range efforts at Rohan Ferguson’s goal which went over.

Adam Brown fired the ball high over Graeme Smith’s goal in eight minutes after taking a pass from Andy Ryan.

Then, with 13 minutes gone, Brown’s whipped in cross was pushed away by Smith.

A minute from the interval, an excellent pass from Brown set up Ryan but his low shot was well taken by Smith.

After the break, there was a greater urgency from the home side.

A high ball into the box saw centre back Dougie Hill handle and Iain Russell duly supplied his well-placed finish from the spot for what proved to be the winner.

To add to Brechin’s misery, skipper Paul McLean was sent off for a dangerous challenge 10 minutes from time.

QUEEN’S PARK 0 PETERHEAD 0

THE first half saw little danger created at either end, with the Blue Toon’s Nicky Riley having the only effort on target clutched by Willie Muir after 27 minutes.

On 52 minutes, Queen’s Anton Brady scooped his effort over.

The visitors went close 12 minutes later when Jamie Stevenson slipped the ball past Muir but Adam Cummins popped up to clear.

The hosts looked set to be awarded a spot-kick on 67 minutes when substitute John Carter crashed to the ground after a challenge from Fiacre Kelleher.

However, referee Nick Walsh waved played on.

The whistler then annoyed Queen’s further when he awarded a freekick for a trip on Carter that looked in the box.

Simon Ferry was sent off for the challenge with Jamie McKernon’s freekick hitting the wall.

ALBION ROVERS 3 STRANRAER 2

ALBION edged Stranraer in a five-goal thriller.

Albion took the lead when Ross Stewart eluded the Stranraer defence and calmly placed the ball beyond Cameron Belford.

Stranraer’s equaliser came before the break.

Goalkeeper Ross Stewart seemed to misjudge Willie Gibson’s shot and the ball found the back of the net.

But Ryan Wallace put Albion back in front from the penalty spot as halftime approached after Scott Robertson had been penalised.

Joe Nuttall restored parity once more with a terrific volley after 71 minutes.

But Albion weren’t to be denied claimed the points when Wallace’s free-kick beat Belford with the aid of a deflection.
