MORTON’S impressive league form continued as they coasted to a 2- 0 victory against a Dumbarton side that has failed to win any of its last six games at home.

Second-half goals by Mark Russell and Kudus Oyenuga ensured the three points as the Greenock side dominated to maintain their promotion play-off push.

After a tepid first half, the visitors were on top of the second from start to finish and fully deserved the victory which moved them into third place.

Dumbarton failed to register a single shot on target – not for the first time this season.

Morton’s Andy Murdoch tested Alan Martin midway through the first half with a low 20-yard effort which rolled through to the keeper.

Right on half-time, Sons were handed a great chance when Sam Stanton was played in but he shot over from the edge of the area.

The home side then lost Mark Docherty and Frazer Wright to injuries in quick succession, and cracks quickly began to show when Martin saved in quick succession from Ross Forbes and then Russell.

Then, after 68 minutes, Martin turned away Gary Oliver’s narrow angled shot ax Morton continued to threaten.

But a minute later, Russell made space on the edge of the area to fire home a low shot and give his team the breakthrough.

After a further minute, Martin again kept Oliver out, this time after he ran in on goal, but it was all over after 74 minutes.

The visitors were gifted possession on the edge of the area and Oyenuga was left with a simple finish.

Robert Thomson headed over in a late chance for the home side, while Thomas O’Ware sent a late header over for Morton.
