BLUE BRAZIL WINDFALL

COWDENBEATH have received £7356.16 under FIFA rules for Solidarity Payments in relation to Greg Stewart’s time at the club ahead of his move to Dundee and subsequent transfer to Birmingham City.

The 26-year-old striker was with the Blue Brazil for four years and the payment recognises the work the Fife club put into Stewart’s development prior to him turning 23.

FLAVOUR OF THE MONTH

ALLOA player/manager Jim Goodwin (below) came up with a novel description of 19-year-old striker Scott Hynd’s work ethic.

Goodwin said: “He’s the type of player you can trust to chase an empty packet of crisps in the wind.”

GABLE ENDIES’ TUG OF WAR

MONTROSE could stay local in their search for a manager to replace Paul Hegarty – and spark a bit of in-fighting in the process.

Former Arbroath assistant manager and coach, Stewart Petrie, has emerged as a strong contender.

He is presently working alongside former Montrose player, Keith Gibson, at junior side, Broughty Athletic.

He’s also a contender for the Links Park post.

WEE RANGERS’ BIG NIGHT

BERWICK RANGERS hero Eric Tait, who is the club’s record appearance holder and goalscorer, is looking to track down members of the club’s Division Two Championshipwinning squad from 1979.

The Borderers are hosting a dinner in January to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their famous Scottish Cup win over Rangers.

Tait wants to reunite the squad with their title-winning manager Dave Smith, who actually played for the Light Blues when they were slain by the giant-killers.

Those interested should contact the club.
