Holt hopes to get back on goals trail

- By Brian Fowlie sport@sundaypost.com

JASON HOLT would love to change one thing when he returns to Tynecastle for the first time on Wednesday.

The Rangers midfielder hasn’t found goals easy to come by this season, though he hit the net 12 times last term as his club won the Championship title.

Injury hampered his progress at the start of the Premiership campaign and he has yet to score a league goal.

Rangers travel to Edinburgh to face the Jambos under floodlights this midweek, and it’s a game that Holt is relishing.

He said: “It’ll be the first time I’ve been back at Tynecastle as a player since I left Hearts, so I’m looking forward to it.

“There are a few of us with Hearts’ connections at the club.

“Tynecastle is a great stadium to play in. I checked the fixture list when it was published to see when we’d be going there.”

Holt certainly isn’t looking for a goal to specifically hurt his old side.

He has uncles who are Hearts season-ticket holders and is still friendly with old team-mates such as Jamie Walker.

He went on: “It’s just another game for me, no different from any other.

“I’m not sure what kind of reception I’ll get from the home fans, though – we’ll need to wait and see.

“I would take any goal at the moment.

“I have been frustrated that I haven’t been taking the chances I’ve been getting.

“I think it is the same with a lot of players.

“Once you get one, you maybe go on and get a few, and I hope that is the case with me.

“For me it is about practising finishing, getting better at that, and putting some away when the chances come along.

“I’d be more worried if I wasn’t getting in the position to score.”

Holt returns to his old club with no bitterness about being allowed to leave.

He said: “People come and go and you don’t know where you are going to end up.

“I am happy with how it has panned out and now I want to keep improving as a Rangers player.”
