League 2 round-up

-

MORECAMBE produced their first home win in eight league games to send 10-man leaders Plymouth crashing to a third successive defeat.

Goals from Michael Rose and Peter Murphy either side of an Oscar Threlkeld header gave Jim Bentley’s men a much-needed three points in a 2-1 win.

Rose opened the scoring after 20 minutes from the spot after Dean Winnard was bundled over in the box, but Threkeld levelled just before the break.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men two minutes into the second half, when Jordan Slew was given a second yellow card, and Morecambe took advantage when Murphy headed in Rose’s corner.

Charlie Wyke bagged a second-half hat-trick to see Carlisle power to a convincing 5-2 defeat of Mansfield.

The visitors led early on through a Patrick Hoban header, but Jason Kennedy levelled and Wyke made it six goals in the last three games to continue his hot scoring streak, before Mitchell Rose pulled one back late on. There was still time for ex-Mansfield winger Reggie Lambe to add a fifth for Carlisle deep into added time.

Blackpool romped to a 4-1 victory at home to bottom club Newport County after the visitors missed a second-half penalty.

Brad Potts and Rhys Healey traded efforts, before Tangerines keeper Sam Slocombe saved Sean Rigg’s penalty 10 minutes after the restart.

The hosts then took charge in the final half hour as goals from Jack Payne, Kyle Vassell and Kelvin Mellor saw Gary Bowyer’s men home comfortably.

Hartlepool were sunk by two Scott Kashket goals either side of half-time as they were defeated 2-0 at Wycombe.
