LEAGUE 2 ROUND-UP

-

BRIGHT OSAYI-SAMUEl and Mark Cullen gave Blackpool’s promotion hopes a boost as their secondhalf strikes consigned Stevenage to a 2-0 defeat.

Both teams were locked on 27 points going into the game, just outside the play-off positions, and teenage substitute Osayi-Samuel’s curled finish from the edge of the box initially separated the well-matched sides.

Cullen scored a late second, taking advantage of Dean Wells’ error, to seal Blackpool’s eighth win of the campaign.

Carlisle remain in second spot after they earned a 1-1 draw at Luton.

The Cumbrians were ahead with their first attack – Shaun Miller’s header was spilled by Christian Walton and Jason Kennedy tapped home after five minutes.

However, Luton levelled just five minutes later, Jack Marriott crossing for Danny Hylton to notch his 14th goal of the season.

Marriott then missed a glorious chance, heading straight at Mark Gillespie. Scott Cuthbert went close with a header, before Carlisle were reduced to 10 men as Michael Raynes saw red for an elbow on Hylton.

Hartlepool were humbled 5-0 at home by Cambridge, as Craig Hignett’s men suffered a second heavy loss in succession.

Luke Berry saw a penalty saved by Pools keeper Trevor Carson late in the first half, but the Us ran riot after the break, with James Dunne, Berry, Leon Legge, Uche Ikpeazu and Max Clark sinking the hosts.

Morecambe’s game at Newport was abandoned at half-time after persistent, heavy rain in South Wales.

The Shrimps were trailing to Tom Owen-Evans’ 26th-minute volley, before referee Brendan Malone called a halt to proceedings at the interval.
