It’s time for looking back... and forward

-

ANOTHER year is over – and what a 12 months it’s been. We asked our Email Jury what the best thing was that happened to them in 2016 and what they were most looking forward to or hoping for in the New Year.

I retired after working for 48 years and am now able to spend quality time with my husband and grandchildren. Julie Doughty, York.

We continue to hope for a more peaceful world, for happiness for our family and friends and for us personally to remain in reasonable health. Lorna Smith, North Yorkshire.

In my ninth decade I went to Australia with my son to visit my daughter, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. As another great-grandchild is expected next spring, I hope I can visit again to welcome the new addition to the family. James Thompson, East Lothian.

I hope to continue to have a good life with my wife and extended family. What more than a contented and happy life can someone want? James G. Plenderlieth, Edinburgh.

Spending time with my grandchildren – nothing can beat that! Especially wee Ellen, who arrived after a 10-year break in grandchildren. Margaret Gibb, Fife.

I travelled to Latvia and met my daughter-in-law’s parents. I had a lovely week with her children and my son, learned some history of the country and tasted home-cooked fresh food. The chocolates are very nice too! Susan Ireland, Kendal.

I hope all my family and friends remain in good health and also that Hull as City Of Culture 2017 becomes the new destination for people across the UK and the world. Cheryl Payne, Hull.

The best thing to happen was a wonderful trip to southern Africa which went way beyond our greatest expectations in terms of all that we saw and did. Patricia Croker, Liverpool.

I hope to keep the health I still have and remain independent. I also hope the friends who are still with us remain alive and well. Liz Kelly, Glasgow.

Probably visiting my cousin in Dorset to celebrate her 90th birthday with a lunch and meeting up with family I’ve not seen in years. Elizabeth O’Regan, Lincoln.
