Warp Factor is set to deliver

- By Reg Moore sport@sundaypost.com

WARP FACTOR produced an eye- catching debut performance at Musselburgh 18 days ago when almost upsetting the Queen’s Forth Bridge.

The Irish- trained juvenile traded blows with the Royal colt all the way up the straight, before being worn down close to home, losing out by just a neck.

It makes sense for Kilkenny trainer John Patrick Shanahan to bring his Ripon flat winner, off 79, back to East Lothian where he showed he could handle the tight track.

It won’t be easy against Catterick rivals Nietzsche and Project Bluebook. But if Warp Factor can build on his last effort, there’s every chance he can pull off the victory.

Peter Niven has Danny Cook aboard for his lightly-raced fiveyear-old Atomix in the finale, and there is some hope that the Doyen gelding is well treated.

On his four-length third to Sam Spinner at Newcastle in November, where several of the principals have since run solid second places, 110 looks lenient.

A course bumper winner in February, he was sure to be in the mix at today’s venue two weeks ago, before falling at the last behind Pot Committed.

There’s almost £26,000 to the winner in the feature race, where in- form Ian Williams’ runner, Kapstadt, is taken to extend the fine fortunes of the Worcester yard.

Twice a winner from his last three runs, Kapstadt beat Maestro Royal by six lengths at Cheltenham last time and cannot complain about an 8lb rise.
