Martin Dobson,

ex-Burnley, Everton and England.

-

ALAN STEVENSON

I PLAYED with Peter Shilton and Ray Clemence but Alan, a team-mate at Burnley, was a natural. You knew he’d make the save to win you the game.

LEE DIXON

HE was a kid at Burnley in my second spell there and I took him to Bury when I was playermanager. He went on to Stoke and George Graham rang me to ask about him. I told him he was an absolute diamond.

MIKE PEJIC

MIKE, Dave Thomas and I were known as the Bermuda Triangle at Everton. Nothing got past “Pej”, although he could be a bit naughty at times!

MICKY LYONS

HE was a true Evertonian with blue blood running through his veins. He got so pumped up he used to head the dressing-room ceiling before we went out.

DAVE WATSON

TREMENDOUS in the air with an over-my-dead-body approach. Always prepared to get hurt to clear the danger.

TREVOR STEVEN

TREVOR was an outstanding young player – great stamina, great touch, wanted to learn. Howard Kendall phoned me to say he was thinking of signing him for Everton. I said: “Whatever it costs, buy him.”

MARTIN DOBSON

MY strengths were my touch on the ball, my passing ability and my attitude. I scored a few from midfield, too.

COLIN BELL

MY favourite player from my era. He was like a modern-day midfielder – box-to-box, good in possession, creative, great energy. He set the benchmark.

DAVE THOMAS

I WAS with him at Burnley and Everton and he could have played for any club. He had great balance, could go on the inside or the outside and was a brilliant crosser.

BOB LATCHFORD

A GENUINE goalscorer. He rarely went more than a couple of games without scoring and got all different types of goals.

FRANK CASPER

WHAT a striker of a ball! He was on verge of the England side at Burnley but got injured. Razor-sharp, pacey and brilliant at holding the ball. JOHN BARRETT
