How Celtic played

- By Brian Fowlie sport@sundaypost.com

CRAIG GORDON 7

ALWAYS calm and composed, the keeper held every shot and denied Danny Wilson with a solid save from the defender’s diving header.

MIKAEL LUSTIG 7

FOUND Barrie McKay a bit too hot to handle down the wing but kept his composure. Picked up a yellow card.

JOZO SIMUNOVIC 7

THE Croatian remained a cool presence in defence and that’s very difficult to do in an Old Firm game that raged from end to end.

ERIK SVIATCHENKO 7

GAVE the ball away to let Rangers break and open the scoring. However, he did make a superb tackle to deny Forrester near the end.

EMILIO IZAGUIRRE 6

HIS defensive frailties were often exposed by Rangers on their right flank. Always better moving forward.

SCOTT BROWN 7

NEVER a dull moment when the Celtic skipper is around. He was booked for a foul on James Tavernier early in the game. Reined himself in to avoid a second caution after that, but he still made his presence felt on occasion.

STUART ARMSTRONG 7

HAS to be the most improved player in Scotland. He delivered the cross that led to Celtic’s winner and showed his class throughout.

JAMES FORREST 6

THE winger showed his pace in flashes but faded as the game went on. (Replaced after 68 mins by PATRICK ROBERTS, 6, who played in Armstrong to create the winning goal)

CALLUM McGREGOR 6

HAD lots of energy, and almost ran himself into the ground, but was never really a major influence on the game. (Replaced by NIR BITTON after 86 mins)

SCOTT SINCLAIR 8

AFTER a slow start, his pace gave Rangers huge problems. Hit the post in a move that led to the corner which was slammed home by Dembele.

MOUSSA DEMBELE 8

PRODUCED a thundering shot to being Celtic level. Plays with a strength that any team would struggle to tame.

UNUSED subs – De Vries (Gk), Toure, Griffiths, Gamboa, Mackay-Steven.
