There’s so much drama to come...

-

DEATH In Paradise and The Halcyon are just two of the big treats for drama fans in 2017.

The most-anticipated series – by far – is Sherlock, which returns tonight.

Every still and trailer has been analysed in minute detail by fans desperate to work out what’s happening.

The Six Thatchers is the first of a three-part series that Sherlock-lovers should cherish as, with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman now global movie stars, it could be the last.

And next Saturday, BBC1 will also start a major new period drama called Taboo, starring Tom Hardy.

The dark, 19th Centuryset drama, has impressive credentials as it’s overseen by top Hollywood director Ridley Scott.

ITV had a big hit last year with cop drama Unforgotten with Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar as the detective trying to find the killer of a boy murdered decades ago.

They’re back this week with a fresh historic case to solve.

And there’s more sleuthing next Sunday with the return of the youthful Inspector Morse in a new series of Endeavour.

The following Friday, the 13th, sees a real change of pace on ITV with Tina And Bobby. It’s the story of the young love and subsequent highs and lows of Bobby Moore and wife Tina.

Michelle Keegan plays the rock behind the man who led England to World Cup glory in 1966, with Scot Lorne MacFadyen as Moore.

New medical drama The Good Karma Hospital, with Amanda Redman and Downton Abbey’s Phyllis Logan, is something different on the way.

But, Sherlock aside, the keenest anticipation will be for the return of Broadchurch. David Tennant and Olivia Colman will be back one more time as cops Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller, this time investigating a serious sexual assault.

Sherlock, BBC1, 8.30pm.
