TOO GOOD TO BE A GOALIE?

FALKIRK’S 17-year-old left-back, Tony Gallacher, is impressing in the Championship.

He comes from good stock, and maybe gives credence to the urban myth that growing up, the worst player in the playground went in goal!

His Uncle Jim played 613 games between the sticks for Clydebank, while cousin, Paul, kept goal for a string of clubs and won eight Scotland caps.

He’s currently the goalkeeping coach at Hearts.

LONG-DISTANCE TAXI FOR PETRIE

ARBROATH manager Dick Campbell is hoping that the £12,000 investment he made in Stewart Petrie does not come back to bite him tomorrow.

The promotion-seeking Gayfield side face Montrose, who have been in fine form since Petrie (below) was appointed manager earlier this month.

Campbell said: “When I was at Ross County, I paid £12,000 to bring Stewart back to Scottish football from Australia.

“I hope I am not thinking I should have left him Down Under after tomorrow’s game.”

NO NEW YEAR JOY FOR JAI

MORTON’S exciting young striker, Jai Quitongo, will undergo surgery to fix the knee injury that he picked up against Dunfermline on December 10.

A recent scan has shown the extent of damage to a cartilage.

Cappielow manager Jim Duffy said: “Jai will be out for a good number of weeks. That’s disappointing as he was having a great season.”

BLUE TOON GET A SAINT

PETERHEAD have taken fullback Aaron Comrie on loan from St Johnstone, and he goes straight into the squad for tomorrow’s trip to Brechin City.

Blue Toon manager Jim McInally said: “He has played in the Saints’ first team, and will be a welcome addition to our squad.”
