Commons wants to stay with Hibees

-

KRIS COMMONS served up a double boost for the Hibs fans.

He scored the goal that secured a vital 1-0 victory at Dumbarton, then spoke about his enthusiasm for staying at Easter Road.

Commons said :“Going for championships and winning trophies appeals to me. If this team could get promotion, it would be a big thing for Edinburgh and the Premiership.

“If I can be a part for that, it will be great, not only for Neil Lennon, but myself, too.

“Celtic are just back from a sunny break in Dubai and I will be touching base with them on what their plans are. Hopefully, we will resolve something.”

Hibs boss Neil Lennon would clearly love to keep Commons in his squad.

Lennon said: “I don’t know what our chances are of keeping him.

“It’s something we’ll have to discuss over the next few days. “If we could do it, then we would. “I’ve just left him to it but I’d think he’d like to stay.”

Dundee United salvaged a point from 3- 1 down but still slipped six points behind Hibs.

Simon Murray gave the hosts an early lead but Queen of the South’s Stephen Dobbie hit his 18th of the season to level and Joe Thomson’s low drive put the visitors ahead.

Dom Thomas sent a powerful strike into the top corner before Scott Fraser gave United hope, and Murray’s second clinched a point.

Morton are five points off second place with a game in hand after a 2-0 victory over Raith Rovers.

Ross Forbes opened the scoring when his cross-cum-shot from the right bounced, untouched, into the net. Aberdeen loanee Lawrence Shankland doubled the lead after half- time, heading home Mark Russell’s cross.

Visiting Ayr went in front when Gary Harkins evaded Falkirk keeper Danny Rogers to smash home from a tight angle. Falkirk’s John Baird missed a penalty before Peter Grant’s powerful header levelled.

Kallum Higginbotham’s penalty put Dunfermline ahead before the break but, just after half-time, Gary McKenzie levelled for St Mirren with a powerful header from a corner.
