League 1 round-up

DAVID BALL’S brilliant solo goal sealed victory for Fleetwood Town as they stretched their unbeaten run to 13 games by beating Bristol Rovers 3-1.

Ash Hunter and Cian Bolger also scored, while Billy Bodin replied for the Pirates.

It was Fleetwood who drew first blood, Ball finding room down the right crossed for Hunter to dispatch low into the far corner.

Bodin stung the palms of Cairns with a longrange effort, before Bolger increased the Cod Army’s lead, applying a firm foot to George Glendon’s centre.

Rovers boss Darrell Clarke made a double switch within minutes of the restart, the change quickly paying off as Bodin picked up a loose ball and smashing home from close range.

A piece of sublime skill put the game beyond doubt, Ball collecting possession on the edge of the box, waltzing through the Rovers defence and placing the ball into the far corner.

Bolton’s promotion hopes took a blow as they succumbed to a late Yaser Kasim goal as they lost 2-1 at home to Swindon.

Iraq-born Kasim fired home at the far post from Charlie Colkett’s cross to end Town’s run of seven League and Cup games without victory.

Wanderers had gone in front three minutes after the interval when David Wheater smashed home a superb volley.

James Henry hit the woodwork for Bolton, but Swindon rallied as Ben Gladwin marked the first game of his third loan spell by equalising with a deflected shot from the edge of the area, before Kasim struck at the death.

Elsewhere, Sheffield United suffered a 4-1 mauling at Walsall, with Scunthorpe closing the gap at the top to a point after a 2-1 win at Northampton.
