TOMMY WRIGHT is hoping chairman Steve Brown’s good cheer after victory in Dingwall will have him sitting down for contract talks with St Johnstone talisman Danny Swanson.

The McDiarmid Park attacker, absent from the victorious Saints’ squad yesterday, had spoken of his “nightmare” predicament over stalled contract renewal talks in Perth.

But Wright, jubilant after Chris Kane’ s spectacular late winner made it five wins from the last six Dingwall visits, joked Brown might be in a mood to talk terms.

Wright stressed: “Danny was right to have his say. I might give the chairman a quick ring now as he’ll be in a good mood and we’ll see if we can get it done.”

Wright’s men now have an away record second only to Celtic after six wins, four draws and three defeats on the road in the league.

He said: “We played extremely well. They are a good side but our shape gave us control and we looked a threat all afternoon.

“The goal we lost was unlucky from our point of view but we kept going and I’m so pleased for Chris Kane – it’s a goal fit to win any game.”

The Perth team were first to threaten with David Wotherspoon driven cross from the left touched on to the outside of the post by Scott Fox.

After an awkward tumble, Murray Davidson went off injured, replaced by KeithWatson, after only 13 minutes.

On the half-hour mark, Martin Woods’ chipped free- kick appeared to catch the hand of Joe Shaughnessy in the St Johnstone penalty area but referee John Beaton wasn’t interested.

County were behind a minute later.

Wotherspoon rose to head the ball to Alston inside the County box and he cut the ball low to

Steven MacLean to send a deflected shot past the helpless County keeper.

Just after the hour, Saints were screaming for a penalty as a Shaughnessy header was stopped on the line with Martin Woods seeming to handle.

County’s perseverance paid off after 73 minutes.

Woods’ low pass split the Saints’ defence and Curran raced in to slip a 10-yard shot past Clark.

Saints weren’t to be outdone. In stoppage time, Wotherspoon found Chris Kane, who lashed a 22-yard screamer into the top left corner.

County boss Jim McIntyre admitted:“That’s two weeks in a row where we’ve conceded a late goal.

“There wasn’t a great deal of quality but there was plenty of endeavour and having got back in the game we were punished.

“They took their chances and we didn’t.”
