Kerr hopes to help keep Dens a fortress

- By Sean Hamilton sport@sundaypost.com

CAMMY KERR is living his dream.

But the Dundee star is too busy putting strikers on their backsides to have his head in the clouds.

This time last year the Dark Blues’ defender had just one Premiership start to his name.

Now he’s among the first names on Paul Hartley’s team-sheet.

The 21-year-old’s reputation has been growing all season.

But even after bullying Kenny Miller and Barrie McKay out of the game during last Sunday’s win over Rangers, Kerr isn’t getting carried away.

Instead, the life-long Dundee fan’s only focus is on extending their stunning run of home form when Partick Thistle visit on Wednesday.

“It has been a fantastic run,” said Kerr.

“Looking back a few years ago you remember how daunting it was for sides coming to Dens Park, albeit in the Championship.

“We want to get back there and I think we’re on the right track.

“We’d be happy taking anybody on at home at the moment.

“There were a few tough games at the start of the season at Dens.

“But we’ve turned a wee corner with the results, the players are enjoying coming in here, being around the dressing room.

“That was always going to take time, especially with a few new guys coming in, but we’re definitely getting there now.”

The Dark Blues have taken 17 points from the last 21 available at Dens and are unbeaten on their own patch since October.

It has been a real team effort – but Kerr’s contribution is increasingly appreciated by Dee fans.

Dundee pubs and social media have been abuzz with talk of the young full-back’s increasingly mature performances.

Refreshingly, his only concern is keeping on turning them in.

“I don’t pay attention to what people are saying,” he said.

“But it can be hard when your pals are looking on social media and reporting back to you!

“I suppose it’s good to get a bit of recognition, but I tell you what, everybody has been great out there.

“A few people have mentioned the Rangers game to me and I suppose, when you think about it, that just shows this year has been a big one for me.

“You don’t really think about that when you’re in the thick of it.

“But from being on loan at Peterhead at the start of last season, to playing in the first team here, it’s crazy.

“I grew up watching Dundee players and thinking they were heroes.

“I just need to keep working hard and keep proving I’m worthy of being here.”
