Restaurant REVIEW

MONDO, MAIN ST, COATBRIDGE

-

1 LOCATION

The restaurant was in the heart of the town, so very accessible. If you’re driving, Mondo has its own underground car park, which saves time searching for a space.

2 FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Contemporary, yet cosy. It was a Friday night when we visited and the restaurant was packed. Thankfully, we booked ahead.

3 SERVICE

Despite the high number of covers, we were greeted by a smiling waitress almost immediately. The food and drinks arrived promptly, but we were not rushed. Nothing seemed to be a problem. All in all, spot on.

4 MENU

Varied, from steak, salads and shellfish to chicken and curry, burgers and pasta dishes, there was a good choice – and something to suit all tastes. Portions were reasonable, especially the side of battered onion rings.

5 TASTE

The fillet steak was cooked to perfection and the peppercorn sauce, sublime. While the hand-cut chips were amazing, the fish was a little disappointing. The Eton mess, complete with quirky green meringues and strawberry ice cream, more than made up for it though.

6 PRICE

Pretty decent. At around a fiver for a starter and £10-£15 for a main course, the bill for two came in at £60 including desserts and drinks.

7 AMBIENCE

The stone walls, roaring fire and wood effect combined with mood lighting and fairylit trees gave off a welcoming and relaxed vibe. Bustling, but not too noisy that you couldn’t hold a chat at the table.

8 SOMETHING SPECIAL

The desserts – each and every one looked amazing! The Porrelli’s ice cream was fantastic. Team with toffee sauce for a simple yet delicious end to your meal. And the extensive cocktail list.

9 TOILETS

Spacious and pristine clean.

10 VERDICT

A lovely Lanarkshire haunt. Mondo means “something remarkable” and you’ll certainly get that here. 17/20
