LEAGUE 2 ROUND-UP

-

LEE MOLYNEAUX’S second-minute goal proved to be Morecambe’s winner as they beat Grimsby 1-0.

Michael Rose surprised everyone with a corner that he delivered to the edge of the area and Molyneux was on hand to drill a superb shot from 20 yards through a crowd of bodies and into the net.

Morecambe had two goals disallowed for offside after the break, with Paul Mullin and Kevin Ellison denied, while they also hit the woodwork twice.

Carlisle’s title hopes were hit by Portsmouth after second-half goals from Gary Roberts, Amine Lingazi and sub Jack Watmough saw Pompey cruise to a 3-0 win at Brunton Park.

Blackpool threw away a two-goal lead at Exeter, who fought back to draw 2-2.

Blackpool went on front when Christy Pym spilled Brad Potts’ shot and Colin Daniel tapped in the rebound, and they doubled their lead before the break when a poor punch by Pym went straight to Potts and he lashed a first-time volley into the back of the net.

Exeter pulled a goal back on the stroke of half-time, with Jack Stacey’s cross being rammed home by Ollie Watkins. They secured a point in stoppage time, when Reuben Reid stooped to head in Watkins’ cross.

Hartlepool’s relegation fears still loom large after they suffered a 2-1 loss at Colchester to make it six wins without a win.

Colchester’s Chris Porter had an effort disallowed before they went ahead when Kurtis Guthrie headed home Richard Brindley’s cross.

Porter doubled Colchester’s lead from the spot with after Guthrie had been fouled by Liam Donnelly.

Nathan Thomas reduced the deficit eight minutes from time, but they couldn’t find an equaliser.
