POLICE have removed an officer from frontline duty – after his daughter was caught with a massive haul of drugs.

The 20-year-old woman was arrested in Aberdeen with cocaine and cannabis worth £36,000.

Specialist officers swooped following an “intelligence-led operation”, also recovering a “four figure sum of cash”.

The woman is the daughter of a serving Police Scotland officer. Her father, who does not work in the Aberdeen area, has been removed from all duties as it is feared he could be targeted by the organised crime group behind the failed drug smuggling bid.

It’s also emerged the suspect has other outstanding matters relating to allegations she attempted to smuggle drugs into a Scottish prison.

She was arrested as part of Police Scotland’s Operation Aspen, which is aimed at targeting English organised crime groups supplying drugs to the north east of Scotland.

Following the woman’s arrest on February 23, Detective Inspector Stewart Drummond said: “Targeting organised crime involving drugs is a priority for the division.”

The woman has appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court where she made no plea. She was granted bail, no further court date has been scheduled.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “It would not be appropriate to comment on staff welfare matters.”
