RON SPRINGETT
I PLAYED with Peter Bonetti so it was a tough choice, but Ron was such a great keeper. Very agile and expert on angles.
TOMMY GEMMELL
A SAD loss. In my first Scotland game, Tommy clattered Jimmy Greaves early on. I was his biggest fan after that because I knew how good Jimmy was. A hard-man defender who could also score important goals.
RONNIE McKINNON
HE’D been a midfielder so he was more intelligent than most centre-halves! Very quick and read the game brilliantly.
MARTIN BUCHAN
LIKE Bobby Moore, Martin never dirtied his shorts because he never needed to go to ground. Great at interceptions and had an extra gear to evade trouble.
EDDIE McCREADIE
EDDIE was different class as an athlete. He ran for fun. Overlapping was his forte and in the ’60s he was just like a modern-day full-back.
BILLY BREMNER
AN amazing player. Always had time to help others on the pitch. Clever, crafty, could handle himself and played for the whole 90 minutes. And he scored so many vital goals.
JIM McCALLIOG
I WAS two-footed, could get up and down the pitch, had good energy levels and did the business on the big occasion.
JIM BAXTER
THE most confident player I’ve ever played with. His control was always impeccable. He seemed to have more time than anyone else.
ALAN BALL
I PLAYED with Bally at Southampton and he was a real team man. A great onetouch player who didn’t like getting beaten.
MICKY CHANNON
ONCE he got into his stride no one could stop him. He was like the racehorses he now trains.
DENIS LAW
MY hero. As a kid I wore my shirt out and gripped my cuffs to look like him. In a game against Chelsea, he couldn’t control the ball all afternoon, but he scored a hat-trick of headers!
