Trump claims Obama ‘wire tapped’ his office

-

PRESIDENT Donald Trump has accused Barack Obama of bugging his phones at his offices in New York before his election win last year.

In a series of tweets sent around 5.35am US eastern time yesterday, Tr ump claimed that the former president had overseen a “Nixon/ Watergate”- style intervention.

He said: “Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!”

The proper ty tycoon turned politician also added :“How low has President Obama gone to tap my phones during the very sacred election process. Bad (or sick) guy!

“Is it legal for a sitting President to be‘ wire tapping’ a race for president prior to an election? Turned down by court earlier. A new low!”

No further information was provided.

Watergate was a political scandal in the early 1970s which forced the resignation of Republican President Richard Nixon when it emerged the Democratic party’s headquarters had been broken into, while McCarthyism is making accusations without proper evidence, or can refer to improper investigative techniques.

Last night Barack Obama’s spokesman said: “Neither Obama nor a White House official ever ordered surveillance on any US citizen – any suggestion otherwise is false.”
