INVERNESS skipper Gary Warren stole what could prove to be a crucial point for his side with the last touch of the ball at Firhill yesterday.

His manager Richie Foran had no doubt about the importance of the result, claiming it could help keep them in the top flight.

“I always believe we can score,” he said. “I know it was late in the game but when you have the calibre of player we have then we’ll score a lot of goals – and we’ve scored a lot of late goals, too.

“Partick Thistle, for me, are a topfour side. They’re strong, aggressive and they can pass the ball and, with Kris Doolan, they can score goals, too. This is a huge point against a very good team.”

For an believed his players deserved the draw but that was a minority view. The home side had been on top throughout and should have won this comfortably.

Inverness can point to a first-half drive from Henri Anier which beat Tomas Cerny only to be ruled out

because Billy Mckay was in an offside position but they rarely threatened here.

Partick were the better side but couldn’t turn their dominance into goals until top scorer Doolan timed his run perfectly to divert a crossshot from Ryan Edwards behind Owain Fon-Williams from six yards for the opener.

The failure to find the net more regularly has plagued Alan Archibald’s side this season and it hurt them again here, as did their inability to prevent Billy King from producing the fateful cross in the dying seconds for Warren.

“This happened a few times earlier in the season as well, when we just didn’t see things out,” said Archibald.

“We did the hard bit by going in front on. We looked comfortable enough and we should have won.”

The Highlanders remain at the bottom but moved to within a point of Hamilton Accies with this result and Warren is optimistic.

He said: “We need to be a team others hate to play. Teams have to fear coming up to our place and playing against us and I feel we have got that back.”
