Amrita Acharia is an actress who was born in Nepal and brought up in England and Norway. She found fame playing the handmaiden Irri in TV’s Game Of Thrones. And she filmed in Sri Lanka, playing Doctor Ruby Walker, for ITV’s hit series The Good Karma Hospi
WAS THE GOOD KARMA HOSPITAL TIRING WORK?
Some say I had three months’ holiday in Sri Lanka, but it really was hard in that heat, though much worse for the crew. We actors were spoiled, kept in air conditioning before coming out to play.
WHAT WAS DIFFICULT TO LEARN ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER?
Riding a motorbike. I didn’t even know the Highway Code so I had two days’ training then they padded me up and made me wear that red helmet. I looked like a really bad Power Ranger.
IF YOU COULD ONLY SAVE ONE DVD, GAME OF THRONES
OR GOOD KARMA, WHICH WOULD IT BE?
The Good Karma Hospital. I’ve no idea if we’re getting a second series. I keep sending emails hoping someone will slip up and let me know, but no luck so far. I’m available (laughs).
DO YOU DO MANY COMIC BOOK CONVENTIONS?
I did but it’s dying out as my Game Of Thrones character was killed off five years ago. The fan conventions are weird but fun.
WHAT ROLE WOULD YOU COVET?
I’d love to play a real comic book super villain in a superhero movie. Lots of fights and guns and stunts in it. You never know.
WHAT ARE YOU LIKE WHEN YOU’RE TIPSY?
I dance. I end up doing what I call my happy dance which I can only describe as being like a manic crab. My favourite song is Sexual Healing by Marvin Gaye.
WHAT’S THE BEST CAREER ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN
GIVEN?
A member of the Good Karma cast told me: “Just do what makes you happy.” I’m not saying who it was. I like to keep a bit of mystique.
WHAT’S BEEN YOUR BEST DAY AT WORK EVER?
The best day is always the first day on a new project, when the adventure is all in front of me and the fun is still to come.
WHOSE WALL WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO BE A FLY ON?
I’d go for being a fly on Donald Trump’s wall. I’d love to see what goes on, how he decides what to say, and how he gets away with it.
YOU HAVE 24 HOURS LEFT TO LIVE. HOW DO YOU SPEND IT?
I’d go somewhere I haven’t been before and do some sky-diving with my mates, something reckless like that. After the 24 hours I assume karma, and the good stuff I’ve done would bring me back.
