Stumped by post-nups

-

SCOTS golfer Colin Montgomerie is suing his estranged wife Gaynor for £5 million.

The couple split up in 2015 following allegations about his private life.

Last week at the Court of Session in Edinburgh, judge Lord Doherty heard claims about the alleged unfairness of a “post-nuptial agreement” the couple signed in 2010.

A “post-nup” is a new one on me.

I’ve read about pre-nuptial agreements where you sit down together before the wedding and work out exactly how the assets will be divided if the marriage goes pear-shaped.

While that might be eminently practical, I’ve always thought it a tad unromantic.

Back in the day, when my husband and I got married at the age of 21 with a few hundred pounds of savings in our joint Royal Bank of Scotland account, anxieties about who’d get what if the marriage failed didn’t bother us at all.

You started your life together with love, hope and optimism.

Try to remember how that felt. It’s of far more value than being the winner in a post-nuptial war.
